When choosing a printing method for textile images, it's important to compare different options to see which one would best meet your needs. The truth is that DTF transfers do not offer the greatest longevity when compared to other printing methods. Because the image is transferred onto the material and not fused with it (as is done with dye sublimation), it will eventually fade or lose its detail after several washes.
However, it's important to remember a few things. Firstly, 50-100 washes provide you years of use. Secondly, while other printing techniques, such as screen printing and dye sublimation, provide great longevity, they do not give you the kind of detailed imagery and vibrancy that you get with DTF transfers.
Overall, direct-to-film printing provides incredible longevity and stands up really well to a number of other methods that rely on paper to transfer the image. That said, there are still a number of things that could affect the durability of your custom heat transfer image, which we will talk more about in the next section.
