The good news is that there are steps you can take to ensure that your transferred image stands the test of time. Here are a few great tips to encourage longevity:

Make Sure You're Using High-quality DTF Transfer Sheets

As mentioned above, the quality of the transfer sheets you use will affect the durability and longevity of the image. Make sure that you are using high-quality transfer sheets or selecting dependable DTF printers with a reputation for producing long-lasting images.

Reach for Mild Detergent

Harsh chemicals can affect the image's adhesion, so make sure that you are reaching for mild detergents when washing your textiles that contain DTF transfers. Moreover, avoid drying these garments in direct sunlight. Instead, dry them in the shade and avoid using dryers, as this subjects them to heat.

Turn Your Garment Inside Out Before Washing

To prevent the image from being damaged, you should also turn the garment inside out. This can protect the printed image from being exposed to wear and tear in your washing machine caused by rubbing against other items of clothing.

Choose Cold Water Washes

Heat stress can cause damage to your printed image, so choose cold water washes to protect the vibrant colors and fine details in your print.

Be Gentle on Your Printed Garments

Direct-to-film transfers should be treated with care, so make sure that you are not handling garments containing these prints harshly. Avoid rigorous wringing of your clothing after washing, and handle your clothing with care.

Do Not Iron on the Print

If you need to iron the garment, we recommend turning it inside out and applying heat to the reverse side. Avoid ironing the image directly, as this could cause it to come off. We also recommend using a low heat setting when ironing garments with DTF transfers to protect them.

Store in a Cool, Dry Place

To prevent additional exposure to the elements, we recommend storing your garments in a cool and dry place. Consider wrapping the goods in acid-free tissue paper before putting them in boxes if you plan to store them for an extended amount of time. This lessens the possibility of abrasion or color transfer that could happen if the prints come into contact with other surfaces or materials.

The truth is that it may not always be possible to control exposure to environmental conditions, but paying careful attention to how your garments are washed, dried, and stored can play a major role in ensuring the durability of your prints.

Always Choose Quality Over Quantity

We get it. Who doesn't want to save money on their next DTF transfer? However, if you want to ensure that your apparel stands the test of time and retains its vibrant and detailed imagery for a long time, then we recommend paying for higher quality.

Partnering with a reliable printing company like ours can be the difference between prints that disintegrate after a few washes and images that provide years of use. We never cut corners when it comes to ink, transfer sheets, and the application process because our goal is to ensure that your garments last for a long time.

Inform Your Customers of the Correct Care Instructions

Suppose you run a business selling custom apparel. In that case, it's advisable that you provide care instructions to your customers. This can not only help them protect the quality of their printed image but also uphold the reputation of your business.

Even if your product comes with a tag that indicates how a garment should be cared for, we recommend going the extra mile to ensure that people know how to take care of their custom prints. Include these instructions on your product listings or packaging. You could even add a separate card with the purchase that highlights the importance of taking proper care of printed images.

Choose the Right Fabric

Not all fabrics hold direct-to-film transfers well, so make sure that you are selecting your material carefully. As we have mentioned already, 100% cotton is undoubtedly the best choice if you're looking for greater longevity. The best part is that this fabric tends to offer vibrant colors as well, making it the ideal choice. Nylon and polyester are also good options.

Use a Heat Press for Application

DTF transfers will last much longer if they are applied with a professional heat press. Companies like ours rely on these high-tech machines to apply DTF images, which contributes to greater durability. Instead of having to purchase a heat press yourself, you can turn to us with the full assurance that we will get the job done right.
